Interim planning management

Erasmus MC is one of the largest academic hospitals in the Netherlands, delivering specialised medical care and supporting a wide range of clinical departments. A reliable and well-coordinated inventory control function is essential to ensure that hospital departments have timely access to medical supplies and that internal processes continue to run smoothly.

Challenge

Erasmus MC requested interim support for its Inventory Control (Voorraadbeheer) team to help maintain operational continuity during a period of reduced team capacity. The organisation also sought clearer documentation of working procedures and a better understanding of the end-to-end processes in which the Inventory Control team plays a role.

Solution and deliverables

Our work at Erasmus MC included:

  • Ensuring business continuity by taking over key operational tasks
  • Drafting of a clear work instruction outlining the main responsibilities and activities of Inventory Control function
  • Mapping of several cross-departmental processes, including the handling of delivery issues, coordination with Category Management, and communication of supply information with clinical departments
  • Delivery of documentation and process insights that provide Erasmus MC with a solid foundation for refining responsibilities and improving collaboration across departments

Essential inventory control activities continued uninterrupted during the assignment. The work instruction and process mappings were well received and give Erasmus MC a clear foundation for refining responsibilities, improving collaboration and further developing its inventory-related processes.
